Puppy Days.....Adventure Awaits

You just brought home your new pup now the adventure begins. Teal was ours in the early summer of 2016 and it hasn't stopped since. Oh, what explorations she had ahead of her and for us!!! This was the summer to explore with my daughter Raelynn and my new puppy. My son was working weekends and preparing for his future so it was just us gals.

We were a bit restless that summer and had to do something every weekend. At least that is what we thought. Hammock Camping and driving the Jeep across Tennessee every chance we could. Teal had her kennel in the Jeep, we added a cooler, duffle bags, snacks and our backpacks. We were ready.

That summer Teal was socialized on the trails, swam and swam well, she hiked and burned off that puppy energy. I highly recommend taking your pup everywhere with you possible. We used a prong collar as she became a bit older around that hormonal teenage period of 6-9 months of age and up to a year.

This is a great time to also finish all puppy shots, chipping the puppy incase it ever runs off, begin researching all Genetic and Health Testing along with finalizing your Registration Paperwork. I kept a 3 ring binder with plastic sleeves for all her information. Your breeder should begin PAW Print Genetics, if ether of the parents was a carrier. Ask them to share your pups PAW Print account with you and order the remainder of the Boykin Recommended Panel. Your Pups DNA should already be on file. This is what works for me as Teal is a Collie Eye Carrier so if one of her pups is also, the buyers need to know that so they never breed to another carrier. This is a great time to learn all the new terms and meanings of the Boykin Gun Dog World.
