In the small town of Lawrenceburg Tn tucked away among the silos and rolling hills of middle Tennessee you will find David Crockett State Park, described best as a place with a rock bottom creek with a covered bridge crossing over to the museum where you will find a cascade waterfall, campgrounds, cabins and a lake for fishing/kayaking. This is a small jewel in the state park system honoring David Crockett, a childhood hero of Tennesseans across the State. In 2014 a trail to honor Crockett was highlighted from East to West following his journeys in each section of the state.

This map can be found in several State Parks throughout the state. Charting his life's journeys from Crockett's Birthplace State Park in Far East Tn to Big Cypress Tree State Park in West Tn. He was an American Frontiersmen, Politician (House Representative and US Congressman). Often referred to as the King of the Wild Frontier, a wonderful history lesson for kids today.
Each year the park host Crockett Days | Crockett Longhunters in August. As a young Seasonal Ranger in 1998 a group of us had the experience of assisting this event in period dress. The event featured stands of historically accurate booths selling homemade root beer in glass bottles with cork tops. Reenactors dressed as Longhunters and Native Americans could be seen competing in black powder contest with long rifles, preparing pelts in the traditional way, and tossing tomahawks. Hayrides for the public and a cool creek nearby to wade in.
We recently returned to the park to camp near that rock bottom creek and explore the nearby town's court square. I highly recommend visiting the court square for live music on the weekends and the 1819 Restaurant.

Campsites in Campground 1 are wooded with ample shade and a flowing creek for cooling off in the heat of the summer. Dogs are welcome but should be on lead. Several campers had fenced in areas outside their campers for their pets. We took the Boykins wading with us and several others did as well. Check cords are nice to allow them to float and circle back to you.
If you are looking for a relaxing lazy camping/cabin experience I do recommend this State Park. Rangers patrolled the area, and the staff was very welcoming from the camp host to the office personnel. You can find more information on the State Park Website David Crockett State Park — Tennessee State Parks if you are interested. Online reservations were a nice accommodation in planning the trip.
